HEEC supports all Garrett County Public Schools working to obtain or renew MD Green School status. Center staff work with teams as they develop their applications, support school-based programs that promote environmental education and sustainable practices, and pay the application fees for schools.
Emails are regularly sent to building principals to remind them that HEEC will provide support and to disseminate helpful information.
HEEC also offers support and a link to Green School information on our website.
HEEC keeps track of the Green School status of all schools in the county and the last date of renewal. Staff reaches out to schools that do not have sustained status on a regular basis to encourage them to complete an application for the first time or to renew. Following is the current Green School status for all Garrett County Public Schools.

Northern Garrett High School successfully renewed their MD Green School status in 2019. HEEC supported the school by paying the application fee, collaborating with the school on a wetland restoration project during the renewal time frame, and reviewing the application prior to submission. Following is a receipt of HEEC paying for their Green School renewal application fee.
