Center Based or School Environmental Student Programs

Outdoor Experiences & Environmental Education for all Students

All Garrett County Public School (GCPS) students in grades K-8 visit HEEC twice each school year. GCPS students in grades 9 - 12 visit the center once during each of their science courses. These students complete student-centered activities that are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Maryland Environmental Literacy standards. These visits are the foundation of the environmental literacy requirement for GCPS students. Following is HEEC's school programming schedule for semester two of the 2019/20 school year.

Summer Camp

Every summer, HEEC hosts two residential summer camps for Garrett County Public School students who will be entering sixth grade. Students participate in various outdoor and educational activities as they become acquainted with students from other elementary schools with whom they will attend middle school. Students remain at HEEC for the duration of the camp, sleeping in the cabins at night.
